1.The main characters in this book are Carter, Sadie and their Dad. They are a family, their dad is an archaeologist and the two kids are just average kids. Sadie is living in England with her grandparents since they won a trial against her father. The family travels a lot. It states on page 3 how the dad looks like, "Now, my dad is a big guy. You wouldn't think anything could make him nervous. He has dark brown skin like mine, piercing brown eyes, a bald hear, and a goatee, so he looks like a buff evil scientist." On page 7, it says how Sadie looks, "You would never guess she's my sister. First of all, she'd been living in England so long, she has a British accent. Second, she takes after our mom, who was white, so Sadie's skin is much lighter than mine. She has straight caramel-colored hair, not exactly blond but not brown, which she usually dyes with streaks of bright color. Her eyes are blue. I'm serious. Blue eyes, just like our mom's. She's only twelve, but she's exactly as tall as me, which is really annoying. She was chewing gum as usual, dressed for day out with Dad in battered jeans, a leather jacket, and combat boots, like she was going to a concert and was hoping to stomp on some people. She had headphones dangling around her neck in case we bored her." Carter is fourteen and is home schooled. Carter and his dad traveled the world when he was eight. His dad taught him about his father's favorite musicians from Egypt. The characters stay consistent throughout the entire story.
2. The conflict in this story is between the family and an Egyptian man. The family was at a museum when a turn of event happened. Carter's dad accidentally summoned a fiery man. He takes Carter's dad away and there is a glowing coffin around him. The coffin sank to the floor and it turned to water. On page 27, it says" Good-bye Osiris," the fiery man said. With another flick of his hand, he conjured a glowing coffin around our dad. At first it was transparent, but our father struggled and pounded on its sides, the coffin became more and more solid-- a golden Egyptian sarcophagus inlaid with jewels. My dad caught my eyes one last time, and mouthed the word RUN! before the coffin sank to the floor, as if the ground had turned to water." The fiery man gave a daring look to Carter. On page 27, it says "He turned, and for one terrible moment, his face appeared in the flames. What I saw made so sense. I was as if someone has superimposed two different faces on top of each other---- one almost human, with male skin, cruel, angular features, and glowing red eye, the other is like an animal with dark fur and sharp fangs. Worse than a dog or a wold or a lion-- some animal I'd never seen before. Those red eyes stared at me, and I knew I was going to die." What they are going through is a journey to save their father and on the way they discover that Ancient Egypt is waking. During this journey, they learn more about their family and its links to the House of Life.
3. The plot in this story is when Carter and Sadie's father gets captured by an evil demon who has been unleashed at a museum. How the characters react to this is they scream. They will do anything to get back their father. Those red eyes stared at me, and I knew I was going to die." This states what happens when the father is taken away. This event happens as the Rising Actions occurs
4. How symbolism pops up in the story mainly id because it is an Egyptian book, referring to many symbols. It has many gods and myths, which makes it similar to an allusion. Another example to this allusion is how in every chapter of this book, there is a new symbol next to it. This is a reference to allusion because it has to do something with the mind. This element is used in this book because the symbols have a connection to Egypt (Egyptian symbols).
5. Another plot scene that occurs is when Carter and Sadie are suddenly teleported to a very important place. As it is quoted on page 238, "An entire city spread out below us--I mean far below, well over a hundred meters. I could almost believe we were still in Paris, becase a river curved off to our left, and the land was mostly flat. There were white government buildings clustered around networks of parks and circular roads. "Is that... the White house?" Carter nodded. "You got us to America, all right Washington, D.C." The two kids just got here after on a journey to save their father after being captured by a evil demon. Another quote that has a significance is on page 245, "Well, there you are. I think Dad and Mum were up to something bigger, something they didn't complete. Possibly that's what Dad was after at the British Museum--completing the task, whatever it was. Making things right. And this whole business about our family going back a billion years to some god hosting pharaohs--why didn't anyone tell us? Why didnt Dad?" How this relates to his kids is because the demon that captured his dad wanted something from him. His kids now speculate about their parent's work and something they have been hiding.
6. Towards the end and the plot, Carter and Saddie and accompanied by Anubis, (a god) from ancient Egypt. They are on a quest to search for their father after he went missing at a museum. During the journey they encounter some obstacles. As it is quoted on page 352, "There was a snarling noise, and a huge black shape leaped out of the mist. It tacked Bast, who rolled over and wailed in feline outraged, then raced off, leaving us alone with the beast. I suppose she had warned us that she wasn't brave." This quote informs that the main characters are going through a bit of an obstacle. They then explore a temple they discovered on page 354, " In the center of the temple was a large circular chamber that seemed to be two places at once. On that once hand, it was a great hall with blazing braziers and an empty throne at the far end. The center of the room was dominated by a set of scaleds-- a black iron T with ropes linked to two golden dishes, each big enough to hold a person-- but the scaled were broken. One of the golden dishes was bent into a V, as if something very heavy had jumped up and down on it. The other dish was hanging by a single rope." How this relates is they find the temple which is another obstacle in the way of the kids in order for a quest to find their dad.
